Dr. Tran Nhan Hao has been spending a lot of time on scientific research.

Eight years ago (2010), Tran Viet Nhan Hao surprised many by completing his doctoral dissertation at the age of 27 at the University of Bordeaux 1 (France). Six years later, this young man from Hue finished his dream of doing Postdoctoral Research at Texas A&M University, USA (since 2016).

In the meeting after his receiving the award, Dr. Tran Nhan Hao recalled that the learning process was his premise to follow the path of doing scientific research. However, to achieve this success, he had to overcome many difficulties first. The three recent accolades of the Vietnam Theoretical Physics Society were the solid evidence. Tran Viet Nhan Hao has been pursuing the field of Nuclear physics for 14 years (2015 - 2017).

He shared that this field of research was very complex. At the beginning of the research, Dr. Tran Nhan Hao and his colleagues (Dr. Bui Minh Loc, Ho Chi Minh City University of Pedagogy and Dr. Nguyen Hoang Phuc, Vietnam Atomic Energy Institute, Hanoi) had to do a lot of work including the calculation of the scattering cross section of the nucleon (nuclei constituting the nucleus) on the oxygen and lead nuclei, thereby confirming the distribution of the scattering angles with the empirical data. The value of the work lied in the development of calculation method which improved the efficiency of the process. This method can also be used to calculate other non-durable nuclei.

Guiding students to practice

Young scientific researchers often encounter many obstacles. The main reason is that they lack the experience and ability to "stand" failures. However, according to Dr. Tran Viet Nhan Hao, research means being committed, dedicated, accepting the challenges; and, it seemed like he has to struggle every day.

Even after good research results, the (research) articles were rejected many times when submitted to journals. At times like that, he and his colleagues had tried to edit and make them better until they were accepted. "When I felt tired, I recalled the image of my father working all night with his passion for research. My father's hard work is my secret to overcome the difficulties," said Hao.

In addition to the recently awarded works, Dr. Tran Viet Nhan Hao also has about 20 research works (individual or co-authored) in the field of Nuclear physics. Worth mentioning, there are many works being deployed in the United States and highly appreciated by leading international experts. His personal endeavors made him a member of the Vietnam Theoretical Physics Society and the American Physics Society at a quite young age.

Dedicated to Hue

Returning after a long period of studying and doing research abroad, Dr. Tran Viet Nhan Hao affirmed that Hue will be his last choice. He said, "Hue is a romantic land with cultural legacy and emotions that can make me feel comfortable and sublime in doing research”.

According to Dr. Hao, he has 15 years working and studying abroad, including 8 years in France and the United States. Like other people, missing the peaceful Old Capital City is inevitable. Therefore, after achieving some success in research in the United States, Dr. Hao wanted to return to work at Hue University. His decision was even stronger with full support from his family and colleagues in Hue.

Before going to the United States to finish his postdoctoral research (in 2016), the year 2015 was also the first year that Dr. Hao worked at Hue College of Pedagogy. Here, he had the opportunity to publish important research works, especially works related to the award of Vietnam Theoretical Physics Society.

Also, in the same year, he completed the National Research Project NAFOSTED (as head of the project), which was a good start for a young scientist. It was these factors that made him think that he had a "debt" with his birthplace.

For Dr. Hao, in an era of blooming information technology and globalization, the working environment is just a factor. The effort to connect with international scientists around the world is the core element to bring about a successful research project. And he believed that proper understanding of the importance of international publications about the ranking of universities from the University of Hue along with the policy of strengthening human resources and enhancing scientific research activities from the province will promote this field effectively in the coming time.

According to the owner of the award for physics, Hue University is making remarkable efforts to build strong research teams in order to compete with the international teams. In the near future, he wishes to bring his experience to the generations of students at Hue College of Pedagogy through lectures. At the same time, he will finish the role of scientific consultant of Phu Xuan University, which he hopes will change for the better after employing new strategies.
